Hi, I’m Mojo, and today I’m helping you pack your chemo bag. Mom says this is serious business, so I’m on it. Here’s everything you need (according to me):

1. Snacks. Lots of snacks.

Chemo makes you hungry, or not hungry, or hungry at weird times. Pack options. Granola bars, crackers, fruit snacks… and maybe something I can share? (I volunteer as snack tester.)

2. A big water bottle.

Hospitals are basically deserts with beeping machines. You’ll get thirsty, and I’m not allowed to lick your face to hydrate you. Bring the water.

3. Your meds.

Mom has about a million. Organize them in a little case. (I supervise and chase any pills that try to escape.)

4. Something cozy.

Chemo chairs are freezing. Pack a blanket, a hoodie, or both. If you could also fit me in your bag as a furry heating pad, that would be ideal.

5. Headphones.

For music, podcasts, or pretending you can’t hear that one loud guy in the waiting room.

6. Entertainment.

A book, your phone, something to scroll, doodle, or watch. Chemo can take hours, and my cuteness can’t entertain you through FaceTime the entire time.

7. A list of questions for your doctor.

Chemo brain is real. Write things down so you don’t forget. (I’m happy to chew the paper after.)

8. ID and insurance cards.

You’ll need them, even though you’re there all the time and they should know you by now.

9. Comfort items.

Lip balm, lotion, mints—tiny things that make the hours more bearable. (Maybe a picture of me? Studies show I boost morale by 200%.)

10. Patience.

Chemo days run long. Things get delayed. I’ll be waiting at home, so please promise to take deep breaths and remember I’m proud of you.

Bonus (from me): A Post-Chemo Treat

Stop for your favorite snack or drink on the way home. You deserve it. As my mom says, “I took my meds, so I get a treat”. I’ll be at the door ready to give you my “you’re amazing” face.

P.s. don’t forget to subscribe to my mom’s blog.

I’m Izzy

Welcome to mojo and the mess, This isn’t the blog I ever expected to write — but it’s the one I needed.

I’m Izzy, a twenty-something living (and dying) with terminal cancer, navigating the messy, heartbreaking, unexpectedly beautiful in-between. Here, you’ll find raw reflections, real talk, dog snuggles (shoutout to Mojo), and the unfiltered truth about what it’s like to face the end of your life before it really got going.

This space is for the ones who’ve felt forgotten, the ones who don’t know what to say, and the ones who are still holding on. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always honest.

Thanks for being here. You’re part of the mess now — and I mean that in the best way.
