7:01 AM
She’s awake. Technically. She’s also making direct eye contact with the ceiling while whispering “nope” over and over.
Strong start.

7:38 AM
She said “I’ll get up in five minutes.” That was two pain naps ago.
I support it.

8:03 AM
She opened her pill organizer like it personally insulted her.
Tension is high.
Med schedule is stricter than a boarding school nun.

8:30 AM
Someone texted “how are you feeling?”
She stared at it for six whole minutes, sighed, and put her phone face down like it was possessed.
Mood.

9:22 AM
We just had toast.
She called it a “meal.”
It was 1.5 slices. I got half the crust. Bestie, we’re THRIVING.

10:49 AM
She’s crying but trying to make it silent and casual.
I laid on her feet. If she needs to get up, she’ll have to drag me with her. Emotional support: activated.

1:00 PM
She said, “I think I have the energy to clean something,” then picked up one sock and immediately gave up.
Honestly iconic.

2:20 PM
Couch nap #2. I’ve assigned myself to guarding her left thigh.
It’s the bravest part of the body, according to me.

3:04 PM
Her pain is up. I can tell by how still she’s being. Not calm-still… white-knuckle, breath-counting still.
I pressed my face against her shin and pretended I just love being near bones.

4:10 PM
Someone sent a meme that made her laugh through tears.
It was about a frog.
The frog is now family.

5:45 PM
She took another pill and whispered “please work.”
I kissed her arm. I believe in science. But also in snout-to-skin healing.

6:37 PM
Dinner was three bites and a quiet apology to no one in particular.
I ate a sock.

8:00 PM
She curled up under the blanket like a burrito of exhaustion and whispered “I’m so tired of this.”
I curled up next to her like the little tortilla chip I am.

9:12 PM
Final meds. Final sigh. Final reposition of ice packs.
She’s fading out.
I’m still on duty.

She did her best.
I stayed close.
We’ll try again tomorrow.

I’m Izzy

Welcome to mojo and the mess, This isn’t the blog I ever expected to write — but it’s the one I needed.

I’m Izzy, a twenty-something living (and dying) with terminal cancer, navigating the messy, heartbreaking, unexpectedly beautiful in-between. Here, you’ll find raw reflections, real talk, dog snuggles (shoutout to Mojo), and the unfiltered truth about what it’s like to face the end of your life before it really got going.

This space is for the ones who’ve felt forgotten, the ones who don’t know what to say, and the ones who are still holding on. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always honest.

Thanks for being here. You’re part of the mess now — and I mean that in the best way.
